MEANING
O our beloved, during the day when you have gone to the forest, every moment without seeing you passes like a yug (age). When you return in the evening and we see your most beautiful face framed with curly locks, at that moment we don't want to drop our eyelids. At that time it seems that creator of eyelids is cruel.

DAY 1
Anybody who surrenders in the feet of the Lord through the path of divine love is a gopi. There is no differentiation of gender in this stage of devotion.

Question - Why do you recite Gopigeet?
Bapu’s answer - “If Virakta shreshttha (utmostly dispassioned sage) like shukdev could recite it, then I have no harm in doing so.”

In Shrimad Bhagwat, two types of listeners are described in the initial chapters - Pravar and Avar.

Pravar are the best listeners described as follows:

Like a Chaatak (a bird) -whose only aim is to listen to harikatha. There is no other motive in his life.
Like a Hans (swan) - who analyses the sutras and takes what suits him for the best.
Like a Shuk (parrot)- who catches the good thoughts and repeats and shares them with others.
Like a meen (fish)- who lives on satsang.

The other kinds of listeners are Avar who have following characteristics:

Like a pig - who disturbs others with unnecessary sounds in the katha.
Like a camel - who only picks up the negative in the best situation also.
Like a bullock - who cannot value the divinity of the katha.

Bapu says, “after so many years, even I have noticed some listeners, who can be termed as following” :

Hakdaar - who think that a place in katha is their right, but they should be aware of their duties also.
Vagdaar - who use manipulative tricks even in katha.
Chamakdaar - who are flashy and attention demanding.
Samajhdaa - who are wise and respected by all.

Katha is an extremely successful experiment. If a listener’s body is medically checked before and after katha, it would be found that a lot of harmful chemicals get destroyed and the whole metabolism changes for better during the process.

An expert speaker of katha may have the following characteristics:
1. His intellect is continually immersed in the glory of the Lord.
2. There are no expectations of money or prestige behind his recitals.
3. He is friendly towards all.
4. He is compassionate for the needy.
5. He conveys the spiritual message in many distinct ways.

DAY 2
According to Adi shankaracharya, there are particular jagadgurus for four yugas:
Sata yuga - Brahma jee
Treta yuga - Vashishttha jee
Dwaapar yuga - Vyas jee
Kali yuga - Shankaracharya himself

But Lord Krishna is the jagadguru for all times- “Krishnam vande jagadgurum”. Similarly Hanuman jee is the Jagadguru of all the yugas- “Chaaron juga partaap tumhaara.”

Vallabhacharya jee describes seven characters of the sadaguru, in whose feet one can take refuge:

1. Fearless (abhaya)- free of any phobia.
2. Grants security and makes the aspirant also fearless.
3. Uplifts the aspirants spiritually even if the aspirant is not up to the mark in devotion (only due to the relationship of surrender).
4. Fulfills all the wishes of aspirants provided they are not harmful for spiritual progress.
5. Takes care of the worthless also.
6. Free of faults and full of qualities.
7. Lets go his fasts (vrat) for the sake of accepted aspirants.

There may be roshe (some anger due to possessiveness), but no dwesh (hatred) in love. In true love, one may not find anyone as bad but one may not find anyone as best as the beloved.

‘Raas’ is full of ‘Rahasyavaad’ (An incident of divine mystery). It is the intermingling of spiritual energies of awakened souls. In the time of Budhha, it used to happen during maun satsang (silent meetings), but in the case of Bhagwaan Krishna, it happened in raas with the help of music and dance.

Vyas peetth works in three ways:

1. Nireekshan - it studies the mentality.
2. Shikshan - it teaches the truth.
3. Rakshan - it protects the aspirant from negativity.

There are three knots in the thread of divine love:

a) Jid (obstinacy).
b) Jhootth (Untruth).
c) Jaahir hone ki kaamana (to show off the relationship).

Who is a Gopi?
- whose mind is completely immersed in Bhagwaan Krishna.
- whose tongue is always speaking of Bhagwaan Krishna.
- whose all the actions are singly devoted to Bhagwaan Krishna.
- whose soul has become one with Bhagwaan Krishna.
- whose only focal point of life is Bhagwaan Krishna and in the process never remembers her home.
- whose birthplace is the inner devotion (antar-garh).

Hanuman jee is also a gopi of Bhagwaan Ram as all the above characters are present in him.

DAY 3
In Shrimad Bhaagwat, Shukdev jee says that one should never create a negative feeling towards the following seven:

1. Deveshu - Anybody who leads a divine life.
2. Vedeshu - Respect the sacred scriptures of every religion.
3. Goshu - Take care of cows. Never insult anybody due to the unpleasant physical appearance.
4. Vipreshu - Respect Brahmins and learned people.
5. Saadhushu - Never have an ill feeling towards pious people.
6. Dharmey - Live according to your basic nature, don’t try to imitate others.
7. Mayi - Revere the Lord.

Never find faults with others due to the ill feeling present in you.

Just like there is a national bird, animal, flag, song, sutra like satyamev jayate, dress, language, leader like Gandhi jee, but now there is a need for a national human being who is unbiased and respectful towards all.

There are four types words used in our scriptures:
1. aapad dharma - prescribed way of action in the time of crisis.
2. swa-dharma - one’s allegiance towards own duties.
3. par-dharma - imposing own principles and symbols of religion on others.
4. prem-dharma - total surrender in the feet of the beloved, like gopis lived their lives. Even Bhishma remembers the gopis’ prem-dharma in his last moments.

The Lord protects the saadhu by Truth (sata), destroys the inauspicious elements by mind’s (chitta) option-free resolution and establishes the dharma by joy/bliss (anand).

There are five reasons for which Bhagwaan Krishna used to go in the forest:
a) Gocharan - to take the cows in the forest for fodder.
b) Paryaavaran - to take care of all the creatures and atmosphere.
c) Aarakshan – to protect the forests.
d) Nireekshan - to keep an eye on wild animals.
e) Niravaan - to provide salvation to demons residing in forests.

DAY 4
A true devotee is a combination of bravery and tears. He/she may be extremely humble but at the same time may be full of courage to face any situation as God’s blessing.

“Darshan” is not just having a glimpse of somebody. It means to sit quietly with a spiritually awakened soul. If he speaks then taking his words from ears till the soul. After feeling a glance of his compassion and returning home with a tear in your eyes is ‘darshan’.

Bapu says, “I don’t have any shishyas (disciples), but I have lots of shrotas (listeners).”

Bapu says, “ I want to share my experience of 30 years back. One of the centres of my chetna (spiritual connection) is Bhagwaan Dwarkadheesh. I came here after doing katha in Una. When I came to temple, I could not take my eyes off the Lord. I requested the priests to let me spend the night in the campus. I felt in the morning, as if it was in just some moments that the night had passed. But in the night, I experienced the feeling of 16 words describing supreme love. I had written these words by hand, that I’ve got here. The following words describe prem:

01. Prakaash - If one experiences true love, then he/she can see the minutest thing even in the cloudy moonless night. It is a state of natural illumination.

02. Prasaad - Tears for the supreme beloved are not due to stress, but they are a part of blessing of love.

03. Pragaaddh - Love is not shallow in nature, it is extremely profound.

04. Prataap - Love is full of dignity, it is not dull.

05. Prabhaav - Love influences the lifestyle completely, it also affects others in a positive way.

06. Pralaap - There is crying out without any particular reason.

07. Pranaam - Love offers salutation to all.

08. Pukaar - Love calls out to the Lord.

09. Prakaar - A person’s affection may be visible through different types of relationships. For instance, it may be of distinct nature for mother, kids, friends etc.

10. Pragyaan - Love initiates knowledge automatically.

11. Pramaan - The presence of love becomes evident in life’s every incident.

12. Pravaah - Love is not obstinate, it flows like a river.

13. Prahaar - Love may seem hurtful at some stage.

14. Prayaas - Love motivates one to appease the beloved by speech, actions etc.

DAY 5
Yesterday, last two of the 16 sutras were left, let us discuss them today.

15. Prasaar - Love spreads out for all, it is not narrow in approach.

16. Prashaant - Just like a child sleeps after crying and surrendering totally and there are marks of tears on his face, this is a similar stage of highest love where there are no expectations from the beloved. At this stage, the devotee does not need the beloved but the beloved needs the devotee.

A person can be said to have three hearts (not medically, but emotionally).

One is a pumping organ in the blood to purify blood. It can suffer an attack or can fail if it becomes weak.

Second is a heart in the mind (mana), which feels pain and pleasure, respect and rejection. If this fails, one becomes free of these dual feelings and can become mentally fit.

Third is the heart in the soul (aatma). This is free of everything else, but is only filled with love, due to which one loves the other only because of the soul. Gopis lived on this heart.

Question - What is the difference between Pooja (worship) and prem (love)?

Bapu’s Answer
1. Pooja may need equipments, prem does not need anything.
2. Pooja is prescribed for a certain time, prem has no boundaries of time.
3. Pooja should be done after snaan (bathing etc.), but prem itself is so pure that it does not require all these processes.
4. For pooja, one may need help of others, but prem cannot permit anyone else. The most important thing is to worship the Lord with love.

True love never expects a response from the beloved. It leaves the responsibility on the beloved to accept or reject, but always gives love from own side.

Question - Gopis were present in female genders, but can u site any examples where gopi is in male gender?

Bapu’s answer - “You need not agree with me but I think the first gopi in male form is Bhagwaan Shankar (who went as a gopi in Vraj). Second gopi is Devarshi Naarad, third gopi is Shukdev jee, fourth gopi is Jagadguru Adi Shankracharya, fifth gopi is Hanuman jee. Other prominent gopis in male forms are Bhishma, Udhhav jee (in his later life), Tukaram, Narsinh mehta, Kabir saheb, tulsidas jee, Surdas jee, Chaitanya mahaprabhu, Bharat jee, Daasi jeevan. And I would like to add that Morari bapu is also a gopi and will remain one, till I have tears in eyes by chanting Ram naam. Whoever remains in the shadow of the Lord is a gopi.”

DAY 6

Gopis like the locks of hair on Bhagwaan Krishna’s forehead. Scholars have described these curly locks as four Vedas. Bapu says, “ I feel that the four locks of hair are the following.

Sutra - the first lock of Bhagwaan Krishna. It refers to a common string (a formula/aphorism) conveying an idea. It has six characteristics.

1. Swalpaaksharam - it should be in limited words.

2. Asangdhigdham - it should be absolutely clear.

3. Sarva-vat - it should summarize the thought.

4. Vishvatomukham - it should convey all the angles of the thought.

5. Astobham - it should be irrefutable.

6. Anvadyam - it cannot be criticized.

Satya - the second lock is truth. Whatever Shri Krishna spoke, became the truth.

Sneha - Affection is the third lock of hair. Bhagwaan Krishna filled everyone with his care.

Swar - Sound was his fourth lock.

A creation or any work of art should always be for self-satisfaction first and then shared with others.

Borrowed knowledge can hide ignorance, but cannot wipe it out. One should be interested in getting rid of ignorance and not hiding it.

An aspirant who is on the path of devotion never finds fault with the supreme beloved, but always tries to analyze own weaknesses.

Khalil Gibran describes some features of supreme love:

1. Whenever beloved calls, one should follow immediately
2.
One should never reason with the beloved’s command, abide by it with faith.

In spite of knowing that the other person may be hurting, one should not lose faith.

One should be silent until you get an order from the beloved.

A sadaguru never bind his disciple but gives enough freedom for evelopment, but a true shishya realizes the sadaguru’s large-heartedness and always lives in the shadow of sadaguru.

DAY 7

Gopis are pained that the eyelashes become a hindrance in viewing Bhagwaan Krishna and thus call the maker (Brahma jee) as absurd (jada/moorkh). In Dohaavali, Tulsidas jee mentions some indications of a crazy person. An out of his mind person is the one:

1. who tries to dig well when fire catches temple i.e. not able to arrange for water at the required time.
2. who tries to build a boundary at the time of enemy attack. i.e. unable to be careful of mental faults.
3. who bows down to every other person for selfish motive. i.e. unable to establish faith in one sadaguru/lord and in the process lives a many-faced life.
4. who has innumerable kids, who has diverse interests, who speaks without limit, who are hypocrites in practicing religious rituals.

According to Vidur neeti (Vidur's Policy),

1. One should develop materially but not at the cost of mental peace. One who sacrifices inner harmony for the sake of economic growth may be called foolish.
2.
A person who doubts every person and incident can be called crazy.
3. A person who creates troubles in the path of others’ progress can be called as foolish.

Bapu says, “ I would like factory owners to provide meals to their staff at work. I appealed for the same overseas and there are people who have implemented this, I’m very glad about it.”

Bapu says, “Gopi’s scarf (chunri) is the only ideal cloth for the dhwaja of Dwarkadheesh. In my view, only one dhwaja (flag) should be hoisted in a day at the Dwarkadheesh temple, not three.”

Everyday one should take out some time to study the inside of one self. Jealousy, hatred and ego become hurdles in spiritual development.

More the intellect, more the worries.

In totality, Gopigeet is a formula for a person to learn to live with love.

Let us offer the fruit of virtue of this katha in the lotus feet of Bhagwaan Dwarkadheesh.

“ Bharoso driddh inha charananhi kero, shri vallabh nakh chandra chhata binu sab jaga maahi andhero…”
