KATHA Detail

JERUSALEM RAM KATHA
The following information is provided by the organisers of Jerusalem Ram Katha.

Introduction:

This will be Morari Bapu’s first Katha in Israel. Morari Bapu has chosen Jerusalem (‘The Holy Land’) to host one of his Ram Kathas. Jerusalem is an example of a small city where all religions have learnt to work and live together without compromising their own faith. This is a message for the world in itself.

We are honoured to be proposing an event of this nature in such an historical place as Jerusalem for the first time. Bapu's recital in Jerusalem is an opportune moment for the world’s largest religions to demonstrate a plethora of shared values.

About Jerusalem:
The Old City of Jerusalem is a walled area within the modern city of Jerusalem. Until 1860, when the Jewish neighbourhood, Mishkenot Sha'ananim, was established, this area constituted the entire city of Jerusalem. The Old City is home to several sites of key religious importance: the Temple Mount and its Western Wall for Jews, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for Christians, and the Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa Mosque for Muslims.

Traditionally, the Old City has been divided into four uneven quarters, however, today, the Old City is roughly divided into the Muslim Quarter, the Christian Quarter, the Jewish Quarter and the Armenian Quarter. Following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, the Old City was occupied by Jordan and the Jewish residents were evicted. During the Six Day War in 1967, which saw hand to hand fighting on the Temple Mount, Israel occupied the Old City alongside the rest of East Jerusalem. Today, Israel controls the entire area.

The intention is to look after all attendees to the best of our ability. This is a personal invite to anyone who may be interested in attending.
